Rube Foster formed the Negro National League in 1920. The “Father of Black Baseball”  was a dominate pitcher in the early years of black baseball, an executive and a manager, winning 4 Negro League Pennants. In 2020, MLB officially recognized the Negro National League as a ML. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1981.

On 5/26/1925 he was nearly asphyxiated by a gas leak in Indianapolis. He recovered but suffered from delusions and paranoia until his death in 1930.
