Lemuel Hawkins was a member of the 1924 KC Monarchs, winners of the Negro league World Series. Beating the Hilldale club in a best of 9 Series.
He was shot and killed by his partner during a botched attempt to rob a beer truck.

Hawkins was a part-time player for 6 seasons in the SCL. On 9/20/1926 in n his last AB in the SCL Hawkins lined a 2-out PH single to left in the 8th inning off of Warbirds’ pitcher Ted Lyons.
