Hal Carlson went 17-12 with a 3.23 ERA for the Phillies in 1926. He finished in 11th place in the MVP voting. He was a member of the 1929 Pennant winning Chicago Cubs. Carlson died in the early morning hours of May 28, 1930, of a stomach hemorrhage, possibly from complications brought on by a line drive to his abdomen during a spring training game. He was scheduled to pitch that afternoon. His wife Eva was pregnant at the time with his 2nd daughter, Kathleen.
