The starters were Charlie Root(AL- Skeeters) and Satchel Paige(NL-Storm).
In the NL 1st inning, Root gave up back-to-back 2-out singles to Alex Radcliff (Starlings) and Chuck Klein (Warbirds), bringing up the dangerous Josh Gibson (Warbirds). he promptly lifted a lazy fly ball to center to end the inning.
In the AL 1st, Jud Wilson (Gorillas) led off with a walk against Paige. Earl Combs (Racers) doubled down the 1st base line to put runners on 2nd/3rd with nobody out. Jimmie Foxx (Racers) swung through a 3-2 fastball from Paige, and Wally Berger (Vipers) popped a lazy fly ball to left for the 2nd out. Jabbo Andrews (Nine) flew out to LF to end the inning, denying the AL a chance to take the early lead.
In the 3rd, with the score tied at 0-0, pinch hitter Rap Dixon(Skeeters) failed in his attempt at a bunt hit for the 1st out in the inning. Jud Wilson doubled into right field and Earl Combs walked. Jimmie Foxx once again batted with a runner in scoring position, and once again was struck out by Paige. Wally Berger singled to left to drive in Wilson. Jabbo Andrews walked to load the bases. That was all for Paige. Willie Foster (Caterpillars) came on in relief and immediately served up a line drive single to Arky Vaughn (Nine) for the 2nd run of the inning. Johnny Hodapp (Gorillas) singled in Berger for the 3rd run of the inning. With the bases still loaded, Foster struck out Gabby Hartnett (Vipers) to end the inning.
AL 3 NL 0
Dizzy Dean (Pines) came on to pitch and gave up an infield single to Josh Gibson in the 4th, and a single to Willie Foster in the 5th.
Dean came out for the 6th inning with the AL up 3-0. Alex Radcliff grounded out to 3rd, and Chuck Klein singled to center. Dean pitched around Gibson with a 4 pitch walk. Turkey Stearnes (QC) tripled into the right field corner to score Klein and Gibson. Larry French ((Racers) came in to pitch and with the infield in, he coaxed pinch hitter Bob Johnson (PAWS) to ground to short. Billy Rogell (Crimson Tide) also grounded out to short to end the 6th. AL 3 NL 2
Neither team scored in the 7th inning.
In the NL 8th, Chuck Klein led off the inning with a booming triple to CF, his 3rd hit of the game. Firpo Marberry (Vehicles) came in to relieve French. Josh Gibson launched a deep drive to CF, that was run down by Mel Ott (Pines) for the sac fly, and a tie game at 3-3. Marberry got Stearnes and Babe Herman (Caterpillars) on infiled outs to end the inning. AL 3 NL 3
Jimmie Foxx was due up to lead off the AL 8th, and Doug (Vipers GM) suggested that we pinch-hit Lou Gehrig (Pines) for Foxx. A RH hitter named Jimmie Foxx, getting removed for LH hitter Gehrig, against a LH pitcher, Leroy Matlock. (Starlings) I called Doug "insane" and he accused me of "having no balls".....that hit a little too close to home....but I relented, and Gehrig pinch hit. He launched a 1-0 pitch from Matlock deep into the RF stands for a 4-3 AL lead. (It seems that having no testicles finally paid off for me.)
Firpo Marberry pitched a 1/2/3 inning in the 9th, to secure the win for the AL. AL 4 NL 3
Lou Gehrig’s clutch game winning HR in the 8th, makes him the obvious choice for MVP.
