Deadball Era baseball at it’s finest. Low scoring, only 1 extra base hit, with the game decided by a defensive miscue.
George Mullin(Pretzels) and Walter Johnson(Warbirds) both put up 3 innings of 1 hit shutout baseball to start the game. In the 5th Buck Herzog(Skeeters) reached 1st when Hal Chase(Vinegars) muffed his 1 out ground ball.(Hal Chase.....? Very interesting) Herzog stole 2nd and scored on a Tex Erwin(Rebels) single to put the AL up 1-0.
The NL answered back in the 6th on a 1 out single by Fred Clarke(Warbirds), and a 2 out rbi single by Stuffy McInnis(Warbirds) to tie the score 1-1.
In the 8th, Zack Wheat(Pretzels) led off with a single, and moved to 2nd on a Honus Wagner(Turks) single. After a long flyball out moved Wheat to 3rd, Joe Jackson(Rebels) drove him in with a sac fly to center. Wagner scored an insurance run, when Mike Mowrey(Warriors) booted a 2 out grounder at 3rd.
Ed Walsh(Skeeters) needed just 6 pitches to retire the NL in the 9th.
FINAL: American League 3 National League 1
With 3 innings of shutout ball to start the game for the American League, George Mullin(Pretzels) win the Most valuable Player Award.
